Carol Ann (Helton) Lisowski, 73, passed away on June 16, 2025 at Centennial Hospital in Las Vegas. She was born on March 15, 1952, to Ben and Lavetta (Critchfield) Helton in Goodland, Kansas. She graduated from Edson High School in 1970. On July 19, 1970, she married Danie Phillips and to this union a son, David Sterling, was born. They divorced in 1973, and Carol moved to Colorado. She later met Ronald J. Lisowski and on May 21, 1984, they married in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made Las Vegas their home in 1986 where she continued to reside there until her death.
After moving from Denver, Colorado to Las Vegas, Carol spent over 30 years in the telecommunications industry, most of that in regulatory, working for Sprint Telephone Company for 12 years, then MGC/Mpower Communications and TelePacific Communications for 10 ½ years. She received a BA in Communications from the University of Las Vegas. In 2010, she launched her own telecom consulting business, CHLSolutions, which she continued to run until the time of her death.
She was a 35-year member of Toastmasters International belonging to many clubs over the years. She served in various offices and as Area Governor. She helped start the Voice Power Gavel Club for the Florence McClure Women's Correctional Center and continued to serve as a mentor to the club until it was closed. She served on the Board for TCNSN Club Ride program, historian/photographer for District 33 Toastmasters, and photographer for Southern Nevada Harley Owners Group. She was an active volunteer and blogger for Heaven Can Wait Animal Rescue, and volunteered with EOB, Opportunity Village, and many other charitable organizations over the years. She was an active member and Vice Chairman of the Cause Marketing Chamber of Commerce. Carol also volunteered at Sleep in Heavenly Peace, an organization providing handmade beds to children in need. She volunteered to tutor young people to get their GED's. For several years, she was a care giver for Ron's mother, Jean.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Ben Helton in 1963, her sister Lois (Don) McClain in 2002, her mother Lavetta Helton Orr in 2004, her oldest sister Lenora (Bill) Somers in 2005, her sister Pauline Spiker in 2011, and brother Kenneth in 2023 as well as her brothers-in-law. On April 27, 2017, her life-long companion, husband and best friend, Ronald Lisowski, passed away from multiple cancers. Ron and Carol's Peek-a-Poo, Muffy, preceded them in passing in February of 1999 and their beloved Golden Retriever, Harley in 2019. Tragically her beloved son, David died unexpectedly on April 10, 2021.
Carol is survived a sister-in-law, Sherry Helton of St. Francis, KS, her nieces Marilyn (Ken) Somers Gittinger, Brenda McClain Regan, Amy McClain Byers, and Tracy (Mike) Spiker-Holder and her nephews, Brian Somers, Darin and Ryan McClaine, Kendall, Kevin and Kahle Helton, any many great-nieces and nephews. She is also survived by many good friends, her trusted friend Laurel Geiner, and good friend and home and health caretaker, Carolyn Pelletier.
Aquamation was handled by Green Farewells of Las Vegas. A Hawaiian water burial off the coast of Kona will be held later, where she will be reunited with her loving husband Ron and her adored son David - to swim forever with the sea life that they all loved so much. At Carol's request, ashes from both Ron and David as well as their beloved Muffy and Harley were joined with Carol's ashes so they could all be together again.
Celebrations of Life will be held in both her hometown Goodland, Kansas and her second home Las Vegas, Nevada. In Goodland a family and friends gathering will be held at the Comfort Inn Meeting Room on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with lunch followed at Shiraz Restaurant. In Las Vegas, a celebration will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at the Centennial Hills Library Event Room at 3:30 p.m. with light snacks and beverages.
In lieu of flowers, Carol requested to be remembered through donations to your favorite animal shelter or to one her favorite organizations: Sleep in Heavenly Peace; Heaven Can Wait Animal Society; Hearts Alive Village Cat Café; Lana'i Cat Sanctuary; The Animal Foundation; The Humane Society OR to Silver Whiskers, where four of her felines were placed to live out their best lives in a sanctuary.
